NOW you can search for Names on Twitter

You probably didn’t notice but Twitter added a name search recently.

That means I can search by first name, last name, or complete name.  It used to be you could only search by username.  That would be fine if you were looking for me, @MikeMueller, but not so fine if you were searching for someone like Daniel Rothamel who goes by @RealEstateZebra.

It seems that it ranks the results based on the number of Followers. That may be fine for certain instances but I’d also like to be able to sort by updates, or other attributes.

My search for other Mueller’s turned up almost 200 .

* and No, I didn’t find Robert Mueller on Twitter (yet)

If your name is "Smith" you’ll find almost 4,000 of your kin!

BTW: You’ve always been able to search for a particular username.

The Twittwer search function has been a little wonky over the last 3 or 4 months Mike. That forced me to find other options....www.search.twitter.com has been the best alternative and it is not wonky!

Thanks
Bo

This new search function should make life a bit easier when looking for names.  I have not tried it yet, noticed it, but did not realize it had changed. Still getting the hang of all Twitter has to offer.

Great... just another place to keep up with people talking about me.  Of course it is ALL good, right?

This is useful.  When I first joined twitter, I was looking for who to follow and had to track down user names as I couldn't find this type of search.  It would have come in real handy then - I am sure I will use this now that I know it exists.  Thanks.

Good to know. And a good idea. I'll have to test it, since my screen name is not my actual name. I used my slogan insted. I'll have to see how touchy it can be.

Mike, just stopping by to wish you a happy, healthy and prosperous 2009!  I am so glad that we had a chance to meet at Vegas.  Looking forward to more!

I'm glad to see this feature, as I went with a branded ID, @LVRealEstate, rather than my name. This now gives Twitter users two ways to find me.

Hi Mike,

I am still muddling my way with twitter. I have found facebook easier to get to on the fly. I have the facebook application on my blackberry & Twibble for twitter. I have been updating twitter through the web browser on the blackberry but haven't embraced it like the other networks. Any tips?
