It’s video editing software, it’s free, and the best part?
It’s already on your computer!
Here’s how to use it!
Now go out and start using that Flip Cam!
* I did this originally for FNT but thought it would be great to share with ActiveRain as well.

Very cool tutorial. I have been thinking about buying one. I need to lok into if they are compatiable with a mac, that is why I havent jumped on the bandwagon.
Great video clip Mike. I love my little Flip Cam
Orlando and Lake Mary Real Estate Agent--
It is compatible with the MAC. I have used it on both my MAC and my PC. I actually prefer the MAC when using it.
Ok, thanks for the reminder that I A. need to buy the camera and B. Need to use it....
Hey MAC Geeks! - (and I say that with much affection) If you have a MAC you have imovie - and that is much much better for video editing!
The other item I forgot to mention is that once you've done this, you can save the project. Think of it as a template, then for tomorrows video you can just drop the new stuff into the middle and the transitions, titles, credits are already there.

Thank you for the tips Mike!
Mike :

mike, very nice post... very instructional, and very helpful.
Nice work.
Mike, good tutorial for editing videos for publishing on YouTube. Thanks.
Mike - Great tutorial. I never used Microsoft movie maker. Now I just need to figure how to get the movies off my JVC camcorder and into movie maker.
Thanks for the post Mike. I use Windows Movie Maker with my camera videos and it is fun to work with. I have been thinking about getting a Flip cam. Great information.
Thanks for taking the time to post this ... excellent information
Susan Johnson - If you do get a flip - check out the Mino HD. You just can't get a High Def Camera for that kind of $! That said, the FLIP does have it's problems. For instance, I want external sound input. I want backlight control and white balance.

Mike, thanks for sharing your knowledge. I have been playing with my video for two months to no avail. Now I see the error of my ways.
Mike - great post. Sometimes simple is good. In fact, in most cases, simple is good! I use Windows Movie Maker to introduce kids to the wonders of video editing. They love it. And yes - one of the main bennies... it's FREE!
Mike- Great job with the tutorial. Don't yet have a Flip Cam, but I've bookmarked this, for future use.
Mike~ excellent tutorial, Windows Movie maker can be used with just about any video camera. I myself use a Sony digital camera recorder.

Mike: THANKS for this POST. I think I am FlipCam challenged, because I have had so much trouble downloading mine. BUT with this post of yours, I think I may be okay.
Thanks for the great post Mike. We are looking into getting one here at the Association so that we can record our seminars and events and post them here on AR for all to see!
wonderful tip- Flip video is a great marketing tool to use
Mike you have a bright future as a movie editor my friend. Great tutorial. This is something that I should already know but dont know. Great post. Congratulations on the feature post.
Hi Mike
Cool, another tool for me to look at fast.
Sincerely
Tom Braatz
THANK YOU THANK YOU! I was searching the other day on how to record, edit & upload videos. I am going to resarch the Flip. How do you do it with a JVC Camcorder?
Excellent information, Mike - and presented in a unique way, loved it! I have owned one of these for a while but used it only for personal use. Will have to give it a go.
Thanks so much for this tutorial. You make it look so easy! I'm bookmarking this for future reference!
I have a camera and have just been to chicken to use it as raw video is never that pretty. This makes it look easier than I had thought. Thanks!
I dont use video for my industry, but this will be great for personal fishing trips etc! Thanks
Thanks for the assistance with the flip cam vidoes...
Thanks Mike, it's amazing what a quick bit of editing can do to really make your video look much more professional.
Editing makes all the difference between an okay video and a great one. Thanks for the excellent tutorial!
Thanks so much! I have a flip cam but haven't really done much with it.
Hi Mike!
Thanks for the update and tips on video editing with the Flip. I have one of these little puppies and was really enthusiastic about the idea of using it on property walk throughs and as a way of minimizing my often hard to read cryptic note taking. But the sound quality is so poor that it's not proving to be very useful -- at least for me. Do you think this is a "feature" of my particular unit? Any suggestions?
Mike, Great post. I have been wanting to try my hand at editing a video. I am going to have to dig out that program and try it out.
Mike,
Thanks for the great post. I do most of this with Activerain(mixpo) video but plan to experiment with this.
Thanks, Mike, good idea, the flip software is not that good as far as edits.
Mike,
I have Windows Movie Maker, of course, and you piqued my interest in using it. Like Virginia says, the Flip editing software is difficult.
Viddler HD next?
Yep video is cool. I've been using video but not the editing. Now I will.
Hi, Mike! Great tutorial--I haven't tried since I don't have a video cam yet. Aside from the flip camera, can I use other kinds of camera? Thanks for sharing!
Mike- Great tut! Yesterday I just figured out how to use the video screen capture with the www.JingProject.com I loved everything about it except that I can only have 5 minutes of capture time. BUT it was free. What are my other options for having a longer capture time? Also, Jing had me upload to screeencast.com. It works fine for posting my 5 minute video here on the blog but for some reason they had problems at Advanced Access putting in the embed code. I was on the phone with them for two hours and what it came down to was that it was not going to happen. Where do you upload your video to? I liked your post very much and believe I have a lot to learn from you--you are subsribed to and I bookmarked this post!
Tami - To do this screen capture I used Camtasia. (Not Free) It's a product from TechSmith as is JING and Screencast and SnagIt. Camtasia is a little like MovieMaker, a little like Jing, and then a whole lot more.
I originally uploaded to Screencast here: http://www.screencast.com/t/WoVkFaDE but for AR purposes I wanted the Viddler Player.
Screencast can be free, but for my bandwidth I have to use the paid version.
Here's a picture from BlogWorld of the TechSmith Booth. I kept dragging RE Bloggers over there and showing off their products. (and NO I don't work for them LOL)

Hi Mike~ Thanks for the suggestion of Movie Maker. I had forgotten all about that!
My Flip died. After working with customer service to make sure, they told us we were SOL. After the 90 day warranty it just becomes an expensive disposable. I'm pretty disappointed.

Hey Mike,
Great tutorial! I still have to get over my fear of being on camera, but I did purhcase a FLIP and the box stares at me constantly, I also bought Adobe Elements, So I have all the tools, I just need to make the plunge.
Thanks Mike. I really enjoyed the video. Just bought a Vado HD and am learning how to do the videos.
Mike:
Just found my way to this courtesy of Kat De Long. Wish I'd seen it before but glad I found it.
