Mike, what is the advantage of having an outside blog?  Can it be distributed defferently?

Posted by Brian Schulman - Your Lancaster County, PA Real Estate Professional (Coldwell Banker Select Professionals, Lancaster PA) about 1 year ago

Brian - It can.  Look at it this way.  I can write a great post all about why a first time buyer should use me.  I post it up on ActiveRain and a home shopper finds it in google.  They come and read my post, then they see all these other people.  Do I really want to compete with all these other people?  Not really.  An outside blog eliminates that.  I have my outside blog,

http://www.patagoniafinance.com/mikesmortgageminute.html

Go there and I have your eyeballs all to myself.  The same thing here.

I have to play, but what I would like to see is the ability to post ONLY to the outside blog.

Does that make sense? Good question!

Testing a comment reply from my outside blog... Uh-oh - first of all - I can't html a comment. No Active/Mike Image - Boo Hoo! No fruit either - instead i have a logic question. I had, "What is the opposite of down?" then I refreshed and got "Who's the smartest Loan Officer?" I answered Jason Sardi, so let's see if this works...

I really do have to research this outside blog thing. Does this mean you have two different blogs, AR and outside?

My html profile doesn't like the standard issue CSS forced on the outside blog.   Also NO HTML comments on the outside world.

Gary - I have a few more than two,  http://twitpic.com/2p35

That's just the Blogger.com platform.  Let me just say that I really like the Wordpress platform better and leave it at that.

Mike,  It's absolutely awesome.  I already have an outside blog, but when was given a chance to try this out earlier this week, I jumped on it.  I like the look of them and there is surely more to come.  With the SEO that we've experienced with AR already, the cost, etc.  This is only a win-win situation for everyone.

I think it's great the more areas we blog, the more our name gets out there.

Cool as the other side of the pillow (Great expression I hadn't heard it before)

All the best!

Mike - I was so excited :) then I got so confused :(

I thought you had to have a new place to put it so I went to GO DADDY and bought 5. (they were on sale)

Now I have no idea what to do with the new domain(s).

I am waiting for the low-tech directions - hoping this was it!

Virginia, I am with you.  I am excited but still trying to understand the possibilities.

We have to read more about how this is working to be able to offer a good opinion. We'll read up on them.

I have my outside blog and my AR blog and wouldn't mind having more; however, I may need to move into another profession as I won't have time for RE!

I'm excited, Mike. I had a domain I bought a few months back so am waiting for it to come on the new server. I few kinks to be expected. I uploaded my head shot but only 1/4 of the border showed up. I resized to the right amount but it won't go in because the other is there, and I can't delete the other one.

Do you know how?

Hi Mike

Do you think it is a good idea to have the same post on AR and on your outside blog?

I heard that search engines do not like if you "paste and copy" so to speak.

Any thought on this?

Mike, yours looks great! I am almost done just need to get the graphic header loader to work. I have re sized but have no access yet. I think I will go buy a new domain name - this is a very clean and crisp format - but there are issues if you go look at your "About Mike" - I am sure they are working on that side still.

Thanks for yout tasking the time to provide us with this information in the Active Rain network.  AR is the new "cyber backbone" of the industry, and with it's uplink to Localism.com it will transfrom the marketplace. Agents who don't see which way the cyberwind is blowing are going to find themselves at a considerable disadvantage inside of three to five years.

This sounds GREAT !  I'm looking forward to learning more about it..

Mike, thanks for your detailed answer to my question!  I like your outside blog.

Was the feature on the left showing links to recent posts part of the template, or did you set up on your own?

Posted by Brian Schulman - Your Lancaster County, PA Real Estate Professional (Coldwell Banker Select Professionals, Lancaster PA) about 1 year ago

Wow!  Lot's of comments to Ketchup on!

Marc - It's not a huge benefit for me.  I already have mastered the Outside Blog.  It is however for the many here on AR that are technically challenged.

Kevin - I didn't make that up.  Heard it somewhere else.  It doesn't work so well in the winter.

Jeannette - Go read Brad Andersohn's Announcement.

Virginia - Nope.  You can go both ways.

Christine - Read first, understand, first, then jump in.

Bob - Yup.

Susie - I have some pinpoint blogs and some broadcast blogs.

Missy - you are going to have problems with the CSS.  Right now it's not a mod you can make.  Tech questions about it should be directed to Brad.

Sally - Yup!

Neal - For me it'll be something to do when I get time, I also need to wait for AR to make some changes.

Maureen - I completely understand.  I grabbed mine before any other MikeMueller came along.

Anne - Read, will my OUTSIDE BLOG kill my SEO?

Jo - Thanks. They are.

Sean - They could be for some, not so much for others.

Rob - It is.

Roland - read, read and read some more.

Kimberly - Play, play, and play some more (ok, that was weak)

Michael - You are welcome.

Brian - Not sure.  Are you talking about the links on http://www.patagoniafinance.com/mikesmortgageminute.html  if so, I coded some of it and used blogger's php

Whew!  19 replies!  Not even close to the number of replies Brad will have to do...

It is ridiculously cool!....I just wish I had a better handle on blogging and content to drive folks to what I can bring to the table (services, et. al.) It is sort of like ready, shoot, aim for me. It is soooo much, so fast, it is hard to kkep up with, without having all the pieces in place.....Mike , you clearly have a great handle on this.....any suggestions you can make, would be greatly appreciated

Thanks
