I was honored when Jeff Belonger asked me to write this review. This is the first time I've written the Week in Review and I spent most all of last week thinking about what I would use as the theme. I also have seen so many different excellent mortgage posts from so many different and excellent loan officers. Hey guys, we have some great talent here!
So what makes a great loan officer, great? Is it product knowledge? How about salesmanship? Negotiating abilities? Communications skills? Financial know how? Legal and contractual IQ?
You know the answer - it's a combination of all of these ingredients and more.
For my Mortgage Week in Review I chose to highlight the best of the best in each of these ingredients.
With the holiday season upon us, and my underlying theme of ingredients, my theme for this post became obvious.
Cioppino!
Michael Chiarello and I have a little history together so I chose his recipe to feature.
I've linked his picture to the recipe on FoodNetwork.
Nothing says Happy Holidays like a great Cioppino, and a good bottle of spicy Zin or Sangiovese!
For a Great Cioppino, gather the following...The Base
The Body
The Lubricant
The Aromatics
The Dry Spices
The Acids
The Wine
The Heat
The Herbs
The Fish
The Butter
All in all there is nothing like a great Cioppino to help celebrate the holidays.
NOTE: I read every single post written by a Loan Officer or Mortgage Company over the last week. Every single one! It was the first time I had done this. I was surprised at how many posts were cut and paste hacks, or reposted over and over again in hopes of Search Engine Rankings. If I found your first post wonderful and enlightening, it was eliminated when I saw it reposted again with just a few keywords changed. What I did learn was that it was so easy to make the Mortgage Week in Review. All you have to do is write compelling original material. Do that and do that once. Enjoy the Cioppino and Happy Holidays! |

Mortgage blogs by loan officers Here is a list of Loan Officers. If you are not listed, please email Jeff Belonger to be added. This way the person doing the Mortgage Pro week in review can try and find most mortgage related posts in one section. ActiveRain is growing rapidly and it is difficult to keep up.... Lots of good reading here Mike. I find the mortgage articles as interesting and necessary as the real estate posts these days.
Thanks.
Mike... wow, this is incredible. Extremely creative, let alone, some great posts here. I am glad that this is taking place, because I missed most of these. Thanks for the great job and also thanks for the several mentions. PS>.. I loved the splat thingy. And you are so right on that one. If it has that icon, it should not be mentioned, because it was copied material.
Mike,
Did ya have to be so gosh darned good the week before I do my review LOL.
What you said about the ingredients is so true. At lot of folks think we are just "order takers" who fill out an application, turn it over to a processor and that's it. It goes way beyond that. We have to be on top of lender guidelines and have the experience and ability to"pre underwrite" loans.
BTW, Michael Chiarello is one of my favorites. Grey salt rocks!!
And you are so right..let's post to inform and educate, not to copy and paste and earn points. OK, I'm off to read some of the posts I missed. This next week is going to be challenging and fun for me.
Lenn - Thank You.
Jeff -I got really good at not looking at who wrote it and judging them blind. It was easy picking yours.
Missy - Thank you!
Cheryl - Sorry. But yeah, Grey Salt does rock! Drop me an email and I'll show you what worked well for me. I really did read every single post - every one!
Oh, am I so very thankful that you came after me! Wewh!!! Good luck Cheryl.....no pressure.....
No seriously, its all about the
contentingredients, and what a great way to illustrate it. I missed most of the week, so I very much appreciate you putting a great list together.Tracey - You are very welcome. I'm really jones-ing to get cooking right now. By the way, I added the PEIs - It isn't cioppino without PEIs.
Lisa - I think I know exactlty what you were up to.
Maybe.
Bill - Like Cheryl, you are too kind. Thanks.
Matthew - That was a great post you had. It was easy to include it.
Mike,
Thanks - I'll email you later today to get some tips. Every single post-wow.
Bill-I know what you mean...no pressure...yea, right lol OK, gotta go and read some posts and come up with a theme...
Acid stomach checking in here. Mustva eaten too many jalapenos.
Can I be the butter and the sugar next week? And can we cook brownies instead?
Seriously, you did this with such an original take and deserve a feature yourself.
Thank you for mentioning me twice. I had somewhat a profusion of posts last week...all over the map....couldn't seem to get my regular opinionated mortgage blog out. Admonished myself frequently about being off topic.
Should also mention that the real feature was the comment from one of my outside readers. I am so glad that was featured and widely read, and that you mentioned it here. To have that input was just fabulous and a great ActiveRain moment..just to know an outsider read that and took it to heart! But then to write his own post telling us how to do it. You know, it would be like talking about SEO and having the CEO of google say..."let me tell you a thing or two....."
So to have been mentioned twice, well, considering I never wrote about the mortgage crisis even once... that is a great honor and I thank you.
Yes, Mike....
The beers are large.... and we go early and stay late!!!
Thanks for including me!!
Cheryl - On reading every single post - Isn't that what you should be doing? Not on a regular basis but as the Mortgage PRO Review writer? That's how I thought. Jeff's system certainly sees plenty but didn't grab everyone.
Janet - Brownies? You'll have to take that up with Cheryl. I heard she was leaning towards Creme Brulee.
Tom - "The beers are large.... and we go early and stay late!!!"? My kind of people, count me in!
"Honey, I'll be back in a bit... ROADTRIP!" Besides, how many people have the TAG "mike really needs a beer (1)"?
Mike ~ Thank you for mentioning my post. What an honor to be included in this company!
I truly enjoy your theme and think that the creativity is awesome! And, by the way, I agree that reading through every single LO's blog is challenging, but as I am sure you did, it found it rewarding. Thanks for such a comprehensive Mortgage Pro Week in review! I loved it!
As a "newbie" I often think "why in the world is this featured?" or "same people featured again". I have to say I've only started to examine your body of work here on AR and wow!!! You have so much to offer.
Thanks for a great blog and I love to cook so this is just too cool! Really wonderful. I have to spend a while to learn and I promise I will be back to learn from this post.
Thanks for sharing and thanks for the effort. Excellent blog!!
Sarah - You deserved it! Your post was all "Butter"!
Jason - As always, thanks. I'm surprised you didn't write a post about the gathering. You could have been butter too.
Charles - I have no control of SPLOTs, so I can't tell you why.
Rich - That's why they make laptops and wireless - so you can Gumbo and read at the same time. Just request a bib for the keyboard. You can go with the fresh crab that you caught!
Wayne - Thank you.
Natalie - Thanks a bunch. I'm hungry. Got to get the Cioppino fix.
Neal - Thank you! Now that I know what it takes to do this you should get triple double points for all the reviews you've done!
Karen - Thank you. I can recommend the recipe personally. You'll find Michael doesn't have the mussels - for me they are a must. If you do cook this - take a picture of it and send it this way!
Nate - Thank you! Very kind of you!
Angie - Thank you too! I was torn after completing it. I was worried it might have distracted from the content.
Joan - Glad to be of assistance.
Great post! This is greta for those who need to catch up on who's who on AR!
Jess Rankin
upcoming who's who on AR
Mike
There's not much that could be said about this post that hasn't been said already. It's great for numerous reasons. I'm thankful to be included.
Mike
Absolutely delicious! Your mother raised you right! Thanks for the mention.
Mike in Tucson
Peter - Trust me. It is.
Sandi - You are much too kind, thank you!
John - You are welcome.
Jess - Interesting tact. I'm not convinced that the Who's Who is a prerequisite for inclusion. Quality original content is all that's required. Although I'm subscribed to around 100 bloggers - I had never heard of three of these people. As for the others? Read there blogs. They produce quality original content daily.
Ed - You are welcome. AR is a much better place with you in it.
Mike - Sorry. I was raised by Wolves. It was a well appointed cave, and they had good taste, but they were wolves. ; )
Diane - Thank you. Not sure if I could handle it. It's a lot of work. I had no idea until I did this one just how much work these wonderful people put into this reviewing thing, and they do so week after week. Wow!
