Do you Dropbox?

dropbox rocks

What’s Dropbox?  It’s been one of my little secrets for a long time.

For me it’s a great way to sync folders across the various computers I work with or between others.

Did I mention it was FREE?  I suggest it to all my clients so they can better share virtually anything!

File Sync:

Dropbox allows you to sync your files online and across your computers automatically.

File Sharing:

Sharing files is simple and can be done with only a few clicks.

Online Backup:

Dropbox backs up your files online without you having to think about it.

Web Access:

A copy of your files are stored on Dropbox’s secure servers. This lets you access them from any computer or mobile device.

Security & Privacy:

Dropbox takes the security and privacy of your files very seriously.  Military level encryption!

Mobile Device Access:

The free Dropbox application for iPhoneiPad, and Android lets you access most everything on the go!

Setup dropbox for yourself and let me know what you think.

Thanks for the tip Mike.  That sounds even easier than zip files and with more uses.  I'll give it a whirl.

Mike,

Syncs to my iPhone too. Love the fact that the first 2G is free.

With just "Sync" in mind, I have Google Chrome which syncs my browser bookmarks across all my computers, Gmail which syncs the email, Google Reader for the 200+ blogs I read, Seesmic Desktop for Twitter, and my hard drive which Dropbox does - all automatically.  I love being in Sync!

Kristen - you can drop anything.  Let me know how you like it!

Richard - I love that as well - haven't even come close to 1gb stored yet (I mainly store html / fbml / script files)

Posted by Mike Mueller (Tech and Social Media Consultant) almost 2 years ago

Mike - Love Dropbox!  I find it useful in getting files back and forth between people - photos for homes especially.  We use it a lot in our office - especially when doing website work.  Transfer files to Dropbox, I can go in get what I need and make changes, and upload them back into Dropbox for another agent or our office manager.  I'm sure you use it all the time - "Mike, I need a Facebook page done and I want to use these photos." - just sent them via Dropbox and you can download them when you're ready to sit down and do the work.  Great tip Mike!

Posted by Matt Stigliano (Kimberly Howell Properties (210) 646-HOME) almost 2 years ago

Matt - In RE I can see exactly that - you shoot 50 photos for 123 easy st.  put them in your shared "marketing" folder.  The brokers Marketing Assistant also has access to everyone's marketing folders and goes to compile the weekly "brokerage" marketing piece and doesn't have to ask or wait for photos / descriptions or worry about poor quality images - she has the same as what you have on your hard drive.

BTW: I started with the one video we mentioned last night on twitter and then watched every single BHG I could find, including a handheld one (from belgium) that had some great closeups of you!  I was smiling for hours!

Mike I Do Drop Box and it's been a great.  It's so easy to keep tabs on whatever project/file we're working on.  As for collarbortive projects - it couldn't get any easier.  I first heard about Drop Box on ActiveRain University - goes to show you once again - Active Rain Rocks!

Mike, thanks for the tidbit of information.  Curious to know are you able to benefit from the FREE version or did you have to upgrade to the next level (paid subscription)?  2GB is a lot of space, but that depends on the user.

Juliet - MuellerMap?  It's explained a little more here: http://areweconnected.com/mueller-labs/

And here's a few in action...

I build the tool and it's up to you on how to use it.

Posted by Mike Mueller (Tech and Social Media Consultant) almost 2 years ago

For single files, pix, etc. you can also use a Yahoo or Hotmail e-mail account as a dropbox. If I have a pic at home I need at the office, I often just send it to my Hotmail address as an attachment. Then just pull it off when I get to work. It is simple and does work for me.

Nice share Mike!... I love DropBox... and I agree about Chrome, love it... it's so cool to have your browser sync'd... I have 2 laptops and a PC at home, work from a workstation PC at the office. I also roam my territory and often have to pop onto a PC in one of our branches and/or I'm at a clients office on their PC. It's so cool (if they have chrome installed) to log onto Google and everything that's mine is right there the same way I use it.

Robert -  "Strangely though I got a spam spyware warning upon donwloading this. Should I be scared?" Not sure about that, I didn't get anything, what are you using?  Was it a generic warning like "downloading files may..." or was it something like "This file contains..."

Roland - thanks for the reblog!

Angelica - they are hoping once you get to use it you'll need more space - that's where the paid version kicks in.  That said, I'm only using 59mb of that 2gb space right now.
