DON'T !!
Plain and simple, just don’t do it. In California it’s illegal and has been since January 1, 2009.
Illegal, yet every single day I see numerous drivers willingly breaking the law. Yesterday it was a middle aged woman who had both arms thru the steering wheel, blackberry against the speedo, on the freeway!
The following video is part of an half hour long program being shown to new drivers in the U.K. It's graphic in nature and worth every single moment of it's 4 minutes and 15 seconds.
It’s a professionally made short movie using actors but that doesn’t diminish the message. If I had my way I’d make every teen driver and their texting parents watch this before they signed that contract for their new smartphone!
Watch the video then go hug your kid.
What do you think... too harsh?

Mike, no it's not harsh! They finally passed the law here in July. BUT the fine is only $50! That doesn't do any good. I'm very disappointed in it.
Connie - guess what? In CA... We Suck More!
Q: What is the fine if I’m convicted?
A: The base fine for the FIRST offense is $20 and $50 for subsequent convictions. With penalty assessments, the fine can be more than triple the base fine amount.

I have to tell you Mike, that headline got me to click. I thought to myself, "What the hell is this guy talking about?" Then I get to the page and i see your warninig. Excellent way to get your point across. Texting while driving is insane.
I don't think I can even watch your video if it has to do with kids and driving. But I agree - we definitely need to spread the message!
Mike - this is indeed a very powerful video that everyone should have to watch.
Just yesterday, my husband and I was traveling I-4 westbound to Tampa when we noticed a truck was swerved in the far left lane to the middle lane and back. No one tried to pass and some cars from behind really came on fast. I'm not sure whether the driver was texting or was drunk. To make this story short, I called 911 and told what I witnessed - thank god after the next exit a highway patrol car was waiting for the driver who then pulled the driver over right after the trooper drove got him with his flashing lights - Lives were saved indeed!
It is reblog worthy to spread the message - thanks for sharing
I appreciate your posting this. Thanks.
I don't even like to read my texts while driving... except at lights... red ones...
But 27 years ago I watched people reading novels and newspapers while driving around Washington, DC...
Just the video image has done it's job. I have actually quit talking on my cell while I drive - it's just not worth it... My mom gave me the best advice at 16 - "Focus on driving, your life may depend upon it"
Mke, Like smoking, we have to find a way to say texting while driving is sooooo uncool.
Mike --- great post and great video. Thanks for sharing.
Mike, texting or talking on a cell phone is right up there with drunk driving. We all need all the reminders we can get that when we're driving, we need to be driving.
