Mike Mueller invents "Stweaming"

Definition:  To show a stream of twitter feeds

When I was at BlogWorld and REBlogWorld the attendees used hashtags to stay on the same page.  A hashtag is simply an identifying string of text.  You can then search Twitter for that hashtag and have a streaming conversation.

For REBlogWorld the hashtag was " #rebw "

For BlogWorld the hashtag was " #bwe08 "

And then for a particular session we used just the simple " #pr2 ".

This was nice because the speakers had the search on the projector and we had a live conversation.  It was also valuable in that the conversation was "recorded".  I can now go back and see what someone was talking about and the links they provided.

Right now there is another convention going on called VAR.

They are using the hashtag of " #var08 "

I can easily place a widget on the sidebar showing the tagged tweets.  As a matter of fact the BlogWorld widget is doing that right now.

I've been looking for something to put the results into a post.  That's harder.  I haven't found anything yet.

I'm going to insert an iframe below and see if I can't show the Stweam (yeah, I just made that up).

Let's pick something like...

Now that it's up - why not search for any term you like.

Try "Mike Mueller", or "MikeMueller" or try your own name.

Go see what the Twitterverse is saying...

Sending the right message

We all heard yesterday about WAMU.

We all have our own opinions about Option Arms, government bail outs and so on.

This isn't about your opinion.

It's about the message you may be sending out to your readers.

I wrote about the possible upcoming doom and gloom over a month ago.

I even beat Dan Green to the punch. LOL

twittersearchWM

It's perfectly ok to warn the public, or even other professionals, but shouldn't that warning also have a good dose of reality?

If you blogged about how you closed your checking account before the Fed's closed them down, aren't you just like your uninformed neighbor or fellow tweeter?

The fact is that most everyone who had a deposit in Wamu yesterday has full access to their money today.

What would be your answer if your neighbor asked you, "Is it a great time to buy?"

It wouldn't be the Sleazy Salesman, "Hell Yes!"

Nor would it be the Ostrich, "Are you NUTS?"

I know, because you are a trusted professional, that you have a measured and correct answer to that question based on real facts and figures.

We live in interesting times these days.  Remember the public is listening to what we say.  Make sure you are sending the right message.

That's all I'm saying...

Chasing WAMU

I was a Washington Mutual customer.

Then the news hit my feed reader.  WAMU is gone.

I guess we could start the "Woo HOO!" jokes if you like...

Here's the view from the FDIC Failed Bank Page

It looks like Chase will be my new bank.

From the FDIC Press Release:

JPMorgan Chase acquired the banking operations of Washington Mutual Bank in a transaction facilitated by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. All depositors are fully protected and there will be no cost to the Deposit Insurance Fund.

'For all depositors and other customers of Washington Mutual Bank, this is simply a combination of two banks," said FDIC Chairman Sheila C. Bair. 'For bank customers, it will be a seamless transition. There will be no interruption in services and bank customers should expect business as usual come Friday morning."

Nick Bastian and Mike Mueller Talk Social Media at Blogworld Expo

Why would a local real estate agent spend his hard earned money to go to a convention, learn some great cutting edge ideas, and then go back to his local community and willing share what he learned with his closest competitors?

Because that's what successful people do!

It's not just Nick, it's Candace Robinson, Jay Thompson, Steve Belt, Bill Austin, Robert A. Gibbs, Christoph Schweiger, Teri Ellis & David Lopez

Check out the AZ Real Estate Blogging Network  and you'll be very impressed in what they are doing for their local RE community.

REBlogWorld, Blogworld and the New Media Expo was indeed a fantastic event. We had some great fun, made some great connections and shared some great ideas.

Next year the event will be in October.  This was only the second year for BlogWorld and the first for REBlogWorld.  My guess is that next year we'll have more than doubled on the RE participation.  Love to see everyone here in ActiveRain make it next year.

Via Nick Bastian - Tempe, AZ Real Estate Agent:

Mike Mueller and I discussed blogging and social media at the Blogworld Expo in Las Vegas this past week. I had a chance to talk to Mike about the Arizona Real Estate Blogging Network and he was more than happy to discuss social media with me. Mike Mueller does a really great job in getting his message out and in using many different social media tools in his business. Mike uses a lot of video and is an active blogger. Of course, you can find him on Twitter, Facebook and just about any other network you can think of. For some of the local agents that have no idea what any of this means, you should follow Mike AND you should get involved with the AZ Real Estate Blogging Network. Here you can learn and share ideas with other agents of similar interests and goals.

Okay, so what is Alltop?

Guy Kawasaki

Guy Kawasaki

My daughter was peeking at all the stuff I had brought home from BlogWorld.

Being 14, she was particularly interested in one of the stickers from Alltop, “Confirmation that I kick ass”

Then came the question I knew was coming,

So… what is Alltop?

You see, as a Dad I know that if Alltop was a hair growing tonic it just wouldn’t be cool to have the sticker on your school locker.  It had to be for something "Cool".

So I showed her Alltop.  It's Guy Kawasaki's project and a smashing success.

I asked her to pick a topic.  She said Music (go figure).  Then I started to scroll down, and down, and down.

That’s all it took to make another Alltop Groupie.

This morning I quietly noticed she grabbed her Alltop sticker as she headed out the door.

Want a better explaination?  Watch the Alltop Tutorial.

What did I buy today?

As a US Taxpayer, the argument can be made that the Federal Government is me.

What they do, they do for me.  They are me.

Yesterday they bailed out AIG, a very large insurance company, for me.

I loaned AIG $85 Billion for 2 years and now own 79.99% of the company.

AIG is a worldwide conglomerate made up of hundreds of businesses all over the world.  It’s trading just above $2 a share right now, but six months ago it was closer to $50.  If the stock goes back up to that level do you realize how much money I’m going to make?

Hey, I also own 100% of Fannie and Freddie, and guess what?  They’re under fifty cents right now!

Next I hope I bail out Taco Bell.   Not for the stock appreciation, I just want in on the employee perks!

I hear the company bowling party is HOT…

Just saying…

Not with a 10 foot pole

With the Merrill issue, the AIG Bailout.  and other problems seemingly popping up daily, you would think the government would have it's hands full.

I guess not.

Yesterday they found the time to call a few people...

From the NY Post:

The fate of Washington Mutual remained in question yesterday as federal regulators recently called a number of banks asking if they would consider buying the nation's largest savings and loan should it eventually falter, sources told The Post.

How cool is that?

It sounds like they didn't find anyone yet.  Don't hold your breath, they might not.  WaMu has some issues.

Standard & Poor's cut WaMu's credit rating to junk status late Monday citing "increasing market turmoil," but at the same time acknowledged that WaMu's deposit base appears to be stable and the company has enough liquidity to meet all fixed obligations through 2010.

That's a LONG Pole! You'll note they said "fixed obligations".  I believe that refers to the capital on hand that the Feds require  as reserves for items deposited.  That would be assets like Checking, Savings, CD and Money Market Accounts.  Those are all performing assets.

What about the NON Performing Assets?  Wamu is carrying a huge amount of Neg Am and Jumbo ARMs on their books.  Many of these are NON Performing.

A potential buyer would know this.  What they wouldn't know is the actual amount of NPA's they have due to the financial accounting shell game.  (that's for a different post)

Then there's the investors in the company.  Back in April, TPG (a private equity group) helped to pump 7 Billion dollars into Wamu in an effort to keep them afloat.  They paid an average of $8 a share at that time.  The stock was trading somewhere around $11 at the time, today it's closer to $2.

The Post reports that these investors at TPG are unlikely to take a loss and any buyer would also have to buy them out at their $8 a share price.

Making Enemies

I’ll be in the last session on Friday playing Devil’s Advocate with Morgan Brown.

We’ll be ripping and shredding up on a few heavy hitters like:

  • Zillow’s Mortgage Marketplace
  • RateSpeed
  • SmartHippo
  • and a few others

This is not going to be a one sided roast - but more of a debate.

Each company will have their representatives there to stand up for their product.

Who’s going to win?

Will the vicious and relentless Team M & M leave these guys weeping in a fetal position on the floor?

or

Will the Rep’s respond with answers, so clear, so concise, they’ll send Morgan and myself on a three day bender?

You’ll just have to witness it yourself.

Friday, September 19th 5 PM, Room 220

Warning:

Due to the extremely volatile and explosive nature of this session,

the organizers have issued the following guidelines:

  • Expectant mothers, small children and members of the Clergy are not encouraged to attend.
  • Those on heart medication or with high blood pressure should consult their physician.
  • Merchant Marines and Dock Workers are cautioned in the public use of any new terms they learn at this session.
  • Organizers have retained the exclusive use of the Jerry Springer Security Team for this session only.

This session is feared to be so intense,

it has been moved to the bitter end of the day to give those who attend ample time to recover.

Counselors, Therapists, and Anger Management Teams will be on hand after the event

(on a first come / first served basis)
