WAMU locks single mother out of her own home!

Yeah, it’s a sensational headline that’ll get washed away with all the other stuff happening.  Here’s the thing.

In the State of CA, until there is a Trustee Sale, the homeowner has the rights to the property.  After the foreclosure process, then and only then, can a bank order the locks changed.

WAMU made a mistake this morning and had the locks changed on a property we’re working on a short sale for.  The owner, a single mother of three small kids, came home to find out the locks were changed.

WAMU’s response when I called telling them they made a mistake?  "We’ll mail her the keys…"

Not good enough.  I forced the issue and now they are trying to put the locksmith in touch with the Listing Agent.  Meanwhile, the homeowner is sitting somewhere in a lawyers office.

Honestly, this stuff drains the life out of me.

Agent Genius? Is that like Military Intelligence?

Can an Agent really be a Genius?

The answer is YES they can!
So much in fact that they can attract other genius types, build a genius community, and dominate the blogging world!

Meet Lani and Benn Rosales, truly Agent Geniuses and winners of the Inman Innovator Award 2008 !

They'll be the first to say that it isn't about them, it's about their contributors.

Currently at 27 and bound to grow.

In part, I agree with them. However they have created the community, they have opened up the conversation, and they have done everything they can to encourage the dialogue. Take their RSS feed for instance.

agfeed

Benn has created a custom header and footer for every post that goes out encouraging readers to engage.  It's always changing, always humorous and witty.
It's just this kind of thinking that puts them in the Genius category!

Congratulations to AgentGenius!  You really are.

Just in case you thought you were caught up

Along comes a new search engine to worry about.

It's black background makes it cool and hip.

It's called

Cuil.com

Of course the first thing I did was search for me.

Oh Oh,

I didn't see any of the normal blog posts come up on the first page like I normally would.

That LinkedIn reference is me, but that's not a picture of me.  As a matter of fact I don't know who that is.

Mike Mueller on Cuil

Mike Mueller, the muscle car author and his books were all over the pages.

Algorythims change constantly. Did you know on average Google changes theirs up to 6 times a day?

But it appears that Cuil has very different ranking ideas than other search engines.

Looks like I'm going to stopping blogging and start writing Coffeetable Books!

Seriously, it's new, it's different, but until everyone starts using it (68% of my readers come from google) it's nothing to worry about.

Catching the Flickr Wave

I had joined Flickr many years ago. But that was all I did.

ReBarCamp, Jeff Turner and Teresa Boardman convinced me to re-investigate the power of Flickr.

Being a self described "Worlds Worst Photographer" doesn't help.

I just uploaded the limit for this month (unless I upgrade to the Pro version) and we'll see how I like it.

I pulled up this picture I took when we hiked out to The Wave in Utah a couple of years ago.

You can see all 37 photos HERE.  I've also uploaded some Motorcycle pics, some Marching Band pics.

I'm learning Tags, Sets, Groups, and adding Contacts.  Why was that one of the hardest things to find?

I can see where organization is going to be the key.

Hey, I'm late to the party, but at least I'm here!

This is NOT a Political Post

I felt the need to put that out there first as the video comes from Ron Paul.

This isn't about him, it's not about his views or his campaign.

This video was a part of a daily newsletter I subscribe to from some Financial Gurus.

I started watching and at 1 minute in he started talking about something I had written about before,  the Fed's Securities Lending Program.

That was back in March of this year and had to look up the post.  I had used the analogy of my tomato garden to help explain the liquidity problem and how the Fed's were attempting to help increase liquidity.

The Fed's Securities Lending Program and my Tomatoes

While I stopped the video somewhere in the middle to look for my post, maybe I'll go back and watch it later.  I'd be happier if you read all about my tomatoes first though. : )

Remember, this isn't about politics.

The exchange of Mortgage Backed Securities for Treasury Issues at face value is real stuff.

ActiveRich and ActiveBrad announced the winning team in the

Makeover 2 Takeover Challenge

Hey Kim Wood...

C'mon, it really wasn't much of a challenge was it?

Wasn't it more of just a weekly assignment?

Kim was one of my favorite new found friends I made at Inman!

Although I heard she is very noisy blackberry'er

Trulia House Party

palacetotulia We were invited after the daily festivities at Inman Real Estate Connect to hop on the "Trulia Trolley" and party at the House of Trulia.

The food was great.  The music rocked.  We all hooted and cheered at the Wii Contest.

The drinks and conversations flowed.   Hugs, kisses, and fist bumps.

I was able to talk to some wonderful Trulia employees, including one of the founders!

Hey, I even bumped into Jonathan Miller!

While we were all having a great time we also learned what a great company Trulia is, and the truly (is it a pun?) forward thinking thought process they have.

(just wait till you see the iPhone Application they have!)

Everyone had a really great time.  Thank you Rudy, and thank you Trulia!

Dustin Luther's Roundtable Discussions

4Realz Real Estate Roundtable

Dustin Luther I’ve been using Dustin Luther’s name for the longest time.

When I teach blogging classes to Real Estate Agents the topic always comes up that they don’t have the time to blog.  I’ll usually ask if they’ve heard his name and a high percentage of hands will go up.

Then I show them his blog (http://4realz.net).  They are amazed at the scarcity of words in his posts.

How does he do that?  I’m saving that for a future post.

He’s been up to something a little different lately and it’s a secret gem.  He calls it 4Realz Real Estate Roundtable

The formula is simple.

  • Pick a lively topic,
  • Invite some knowledgeable people,
  • Invite the rest of the internet,
  • and then see where the conversation goes.

Once it’s over, provide the podcast for anyone who wasn’t able to make the live event.

Oh yeah, there’s another part.  The live chat that happens as the audio discussions are taking place.  Often times the chat provides an spirited silent conversation.

That all might be fine but as my friend Emeril would say, “Let’s take it up a notch!”

How about bringing Jonathan Miller in for a discussion?  Yeah, that Jonathan Miller

Follow that with Lawrence Yun?

Jonathan Miller IS the Matrix

Jonathan Miller IS the Matrix

One of my favorite daily reads (In my Google Feed Reader) is Jonathan Miller.

He's the "go to guy" when the big TV and Media people need a professional opinion.

Here's a couple of his latest interviews:

[July 18, 2008] Bloomberg TV - On The Economy

[July 2, 2008] Bloomberg TV - In Focus

[June 17, 2008] Fox Business Network - Money For Breakfast

[May 22, 2008] Lawline TV

[May 16, 2008] Fox Business Network

If you are not reading every word he writes, you should be!

So far, we've only communicated online (He's in NY) so it was a huge surprise to see him at the Trulia House Party last night.

I only wish it was quieter and we had time to sit down and chat.

Not only is he really smart, he's a really nice guy too!

RE Bar Camp 2008

REBarCamp 2008

First question should be "What the heck is a REBarCamp?

Did you learn how to build bridges or something?

From the website

"RE Bar Camp is an ad-hoc gathering born from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment. It is an intense event with discussions, demos, and interaction from attendees. Visit our wiki for more information."

I can say it was a great event and have to thank Andy, Todd, and all the rest that helped make it happen.

Here's just a small sample of some of the many who attended....
